I’m playing around with the free agent contract numbers from the past three offseasons. Here’s an “xth richest salaries” thing, by average yearly value, submitted more or less without comment:
There are a million reasons you may not be able to do a direct comparison, but it appears that in spite of what the CW says is a down year for free agents, players not named A-Rod seem to be doing ok, if you only look at average annual salary. And while the post-2006 offseason wasn’t quite as rich for the very top end, it was a lot better for the non-superstars.
